Kanyakumari – jewel of the south
Kanyakumari, a town famous as a pilgrimage destination in India is located in the state of Tamil Nadu in the southern edge of the Indian Peninsular. The city is named so after a famous temple there, dedicated to Devi Kumari Amman or Kanyakumari. Located at the confluence of Arabian Sea, Gulf of Mannar and Indian Ocean, Kanyakumari is a holy site for the Hindu pilgrims. A ferry ride to Vivekananda Rock to watch the confluence of the three oceans, is very popular among tourists. It is bordered on the north and east by Tirunelveli District, while Kerala is located towards its west and northwest.
